Rock and a Hard Place is a 30 page book consisting of two short stories by the artist/author Ke Francis. The book is written, illustrated, designed, printed and bound by Francis at HOOPSNAKE PRESS in Tupelo, Mississippi. The book is 7 1/8 inches wide, 10 ½ inches tall and ½ inch thick. It is bound in black vinyl –over –board cover with an embossed silver foil press logo in a recessed window. The book was printed on a 3228 Vandercook letterpress using photopolymer plates. The typeface is Lucida Sans Unicode and the paper is an acid-free Mohawk Superfine. There are two transparent pages with black and white images and two colored drawings printed with archival pigmented ink on an Epson 4900 digital printer. One photograph and six engravings illustrate the stories. One of the engravings is a two-color, three-page foldout from hand-engraved plates that is signed by the artist. The book was produced in an edition of one-hundred -and-fifty copies with ten leather bound artist’s proofs and ten examination copies.
